This unique fellow is a Velocette LE from 1971. It actually is the 2nd to the last Velocette off the assembly line as it was made with the Birmingham England plant was in receivership and scheduled to close. This bike was imported to California but was never sold by the importer. This was bought from the collection of the importer  in May 2006. Thanks to proper storage (excepting the petrol left in the tank) she is in very good condition. She won 1st place at the British Iron Meet in Hebron, CT. in August of this year. I do ride her.
The LE stands for "little engine" and was first produced in 1949. This one is a MK3 with 4 speeds, a kick starter, shaft drive, rubber mounted engine, water cooled, 200cc flat head opposing twin. As of this writing she has 180 miles on the odometer and is ridden enough to be kept in shape.
I was surprised to be swarmed upon before I made 60 feet as I rode her into the concourse at the British meet. I actually had the escape to my proper line of bikes by running over 6 guys with questionable teeth where the swarm was thinnest. I actually thought I would be placed in a line of LE bikes and I looked foward to seeing the hand shift ones in cool colours.
Thanks to Roger Slater.
